Da Scriffles Launch: A Podcast!
The Pay Check is inspired by two years of surviving on my wits as a freelance writer-producer and the luxury of listening to hours of Radio National while I work. Self-employment has been a great adventure which has enriched my life and enriched my understanding.
I have finally got a motto for 2012: Superiority is not useful - diversity is.
It feels like anyone who has a "fair dinkum" "go" is "fair" game. The lazy mob wants to have a go at them and pick them to bits. Has the nation deceived itself all these years into believing that "a fair go" is an "Aussie" value?

I started freelancing in 2010 seeking a change after a career in print and online journalism that covered everything from the police night shift, the courts, the councils, the TV networks, entertainment, education and gossip!
Not sure what to expect, I didn't expect to have people tell me how well I could write. I felt quite chuffed at actually being thanked for my work.
Over the past two years, I have experienced only one incident of verbal abuse (from two misinformed, angry young men - hence the reference to an angry mob in the podcast). These two young men seemed to me symbols of a greater anger that pervades society today which holds little or no promise of abating.
Late last year I bought a microphone so that I could experiment with audio.
So now I can harang you with my voice - if I feel like it.
When I started da Scriffles in 2009, it was without much direction but it has morphed in my mind into a social art blog - the opinions are my own. I have tried to be a fearless blogger - in my mind. But it is proving more difficult as time goes on because of professional considerations.
